In that time, much has changed both globally and locally. While Australia & New Zealand remain safe and fortunate places compared with the circumstances faced by many of our international colleagues, this year has nevertheless reminded us that we cannot take safety, inclusion, and social cohesion for granted.

Inclusivity is also a core value of AGES and one that has been reflected in many of our activities over the past year. We have seen meaningful collaboration across specialties and disciplines at the Melbourne Perioperative Surgical Meeting, and we celebrated the richness of Māori culture during our Auckland Annual Scientific Meeting. These experiences have strengthened our society and reminded us that diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences enriches our profession.

There was a time when I did not feel that AGES was a natural home for me. Yet as the culture of our society has evolved, I have been fortunate to experience a genuine sense of welcome and belonging. In turn, I have sought to extend that same welcome to others.

As members, you are AGES.

The future of our society will be shaped not by a board or a committee alone, but by the engagement, ideas, and contributions of its members. I encourage each of you to play a role in that future. Join a committee. Volunteer to speak at a conference. Contribute an article to eScope. Mentor a colleague. Share your expertise and your perspective.

Our goal is for every member to find a place within AGES and to feel that they belong.

Thank you for your support of eScope over the past 12 months. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together in the year ahead.

    <img decoding="async"
