What a year it has been for AGES!

From an outstanding Annual Scientific Meeting to our inaugural combined AGES and UGSA Pelvic Floor Symposium, there has been so much to celebrate: excellent science, generous exchanges of ideas, new collaborations and, as always, the pleasure of catching up with friends and colleagues.

As I write, we are making the final preparations for the Sydney Focus Meeting, ‘Rise of the Machines’, exploring robotics and artificial intelligence. By the time this edition reaches you, the meeting will have just concluded. As Chair, it has been a privilege to help bring together a program examining technologies that are already changing our working lives and challenging us to consider what comes next. I hope those who joined us leave with fresh ideas, useful questions and a clearer sense of how we can help shape the future of gynaecological care.

That willingness to learn, question and evolve runs throughout this edition. Dr Keryn Harlow takes us back to the combined AGES and UGSA meeting in Melbourne, where ‘Different Paths, One Purpose’ captured the value of bringing different specialties together around a shared commitment to women’s health. Her reflections are a reminder of how much we gain when we look beyond our own areas of practice.

We also celebrate one of this year’s most exciting initiatives: the AGES Surgical Coaching Program. Launched in 2026, the programme has had a hugely successful first year. Our Treasurer, Dr Kirsten Connan, and Board member, Dr Kate Martin, share its progress and the opportunities it offers members. Creating space for reflection, constructive feedback and continued development is valuable at every stage of a surgical career, and it is wonderful to see AGES supporting this so actively.

The importance of learning from others is also central to Dr Akshara Shyamsunder’s thoughtful interview with Dr Rosanne Kho. Their conversation explores mentorship, surgical judgement, leadership and the responsibility we have to create opportunities for those who follow us. Alongside this, Dr Vinita Rajadurai shares lessons from her Hysteroscopy Travelling Fellowship, illustrating how observing different services can inspire practical improvements closer to home.

Our journal club article presented by Dr James Trotta examines the relationship between endometriosis phenotype and ovarian cancer risk, considering how emerging evidence should inform thoughtful, individualised counselling. Looking ahead, we preview the Brisbane ASM in March 2027, ‘New Sprouts and Old Growth Forests’ – a fitting invitation to explore new ideas while reflecting on the experience and evidence that underpin our practice. On that subject, Dr Alison Bryant-Smith has also compiled a helpful calendar of conferences for 2027, bringing together opportunities for learning and connecting with colleagues throughout the year. Be sure to take a look as you plan your diary for the year ahead.

Together, these contributions capture so much of what makes AGES special: curiosity, collegiality and a willingness to share what we know while remaining open to what we still have to learn.

Thank you to our authors, reviewers, Board members, organising committees and the many people working behind the scenes who have contributed to eScope and to the Society throughout 2026. An enormous thank you to Mary Sparksman and her team at YRD for their tireless work behind the scenes, and to our sponsors and industry partners, whose generous support helps make our meetings, educational programs and member initiatives possible. And above all, thank you to our members, whose enthusiasm and involvement make this such a rewarding community to be part of.

I wish you and your families a happy festive season, some well-earned time to rest, and a wonderful start to 2027. I look forward to seeing many of you in Brisbane next year.

     <img decoding="async"
