The jacarandas are about to bloom, the mornings are lighter, and there’s a warmth in the air that feels like possibility. Sunshine always brings with it a sense of renewal, energy, and connection – a fitting backdrop as we share another edition of eScope. Many of us are still carrying the buzz from the inaugural Perioperative Surgical Meeting in Melbourne, a meeting that left us refreshed and uplifted, and reminded us of the inspiration and power of team work.

As we bring you this edition of eScope, I am reminded of how diverse and vibrant our AGES community is. This issue captures that spirit perfectly, with stories that are thoughtful, honest, and inspiring.

We begin in Broome, where Dr Lauren Kite shares her journey as a regional O&G. Her reflections remind us of the unique challenges, and immense rewards, of delivering specialist care in remote Australia. Alongside this, we highlight AGES’ new Rural and Regional Special Interest Group, which asks how we can better bring world-class care to every corner of Australia and New Zealand.

Our Journal Club contributions dive deep into topics central to our practice: the cardiovascular consequences of bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and the evolving evidence on adhesion prevention. Both reviews offer important insights to inform surgical decision-making and patient counselling.

In contrast, Dr Keryn Harlow brings us something delightfully different, a candid, humorous, and uplifting reflection on surgical coaching and finding her mojo again. It is a reminder that growth in surgery is not just technical, but personal, and that coaching has the power to amplify skills, confidence and careers.

Finally, we look ahead to the 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Auckland. With the theme Integrating Surgical Instincts with Scientific Insights, and keynote speakers of the highest calibre, it promises to be an exceptional gathering of our AGES whānau.

As always, I am grateful to our wonderful committee:
Dr Kirsten Connan, Dr Nyasha Gwata, Dr Kate Martin, Dr Keryn Harlow, Dr Akshara Shyamsunder, Dr Alison Bryant-Smith, Dr Basia Lowes, and Dr Rebecca Nash, who make this publication possible.

I hope you enjoy this edition, and as ever, we welcome your ideas for future issues.

See you next year in Auckland!

    <img decoding="async"
