He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.”
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

This well-known Māori proverb reminds us that the true heart of any endeavour is its people, their relationships, resilience and collective strength. Within Te Ao Māori, which reflects Māori world view, health and wellbeing are never seen in isolation but as part of a wider network of land, spirit, and whanau/family.

A central concept here is the word ‘whānau’. While direct translation of the word is family, it extends beyond blood ties. It encompasses kinship, community, and the groups we belong to. It reminds us, in a world of increasing social isolation, the importance of those who guide, support, and stand beside us.

Being part of AGES means being part of such a family. Together, we form a community bound by the shared purpose of striving for excellence in women’s health, supporting each other through learning endeavours and celebrating the progress of our specialty.
The 2026 ASM is an opportunity to reconnect and reflect as we explore the theme of ‘Integrating Surgical Instincts with Scientific Insights’.

We are honoured to welcome two outstanding keynote speakers:
Dr Cara King, based at the Cleveland clinic, is a passionate educator, surgeon, and advocate for advancing minimally invasive gynaecology. She is the Program Director of the MIGS fellowship and serves on the board of AAGL. She has a passion for surgical coaching and is Vice President of the Academy for Surgical Coaching.

Dr Sony Singh, from The Ottowa Hospital, is a world-renowned leader in advanced endoscopic surgery and brings a wealth of expertise in managing complex conditions. He is Department Head of O&G and Chair and Full Professor at the University of Ottowa. Dr Singh leads the Ottawa Minimally Invasice Gyanecology research group which focuses on the diagnosis management and surgical approach to endometriosis and uterine fibroids.

Beyond the conference Auckland, and the varied landscapes of New Zealand, offer visitors a chance to connect with culture and nature in unforgettable ways. With so many offerings, from world class wineries to breathtaking hikes there will be something to suit everyone staying on to explore further afield. Suggested highlights not to be missed:

Waiheke Island – Just a short ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Waiheke is famed for its vineyards, beaches, and art. A perfect escape to recharge if you are short on time.

Rotorua – The cultural and geothermal heart of New Zealand, Rotorua offers immersive Māori cultural experiences, bubbling mud pools, and natural hot springs. A must for those needing a pause to unwind and connect with nature.

Queenstown – Surrounded by mountains and set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is New Zealand’s adventure capital. Whether you seek fine dining or heart-racing thrills, this alpine town is only a short direct flight from Auckland.

With the full programme going to press very soon you can anticipate the same exceptional standard that has become synonymous with all AGES meetings. In addition, weaved through our offering will be what we believe is at the heart of science and surgery, which is connection. Connection to knowledge, to innovation, and most importantly to people; our AGES whānau.

Ngā mihi nui,

The AGES 2026 Organising Committee

Dr Olivia Smart <br
